Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_30262
Symptoms:
PHSS_30262:
1. If an X client application is connected to a remote
Xserver and the machine hosting the remote Xserver is
disconnected from the network, or experiences a power
outage, the client does not always terminate. Instead,
it will continue to wait for additional X traffic.
2. Customer application unable to find
UID files from UIDPATH.
3. Low performance in threaded application
with current implementation of
threadsafe libXt.
4. Toplevel shells do not inherit parents
colormap under Motif 2.1
5. XOpenDisplay() fails in 64-bit applications when
using X/Open networking.
PHSS_29371:
1. Some Java Swing and AWT applications will
abort when run in the ja_JP.utf8 locale.
2. Motif key bindings are different between
10.20 and 11.0 mwm
3. Setting of the environment variable
XMCHG_SHADOW_COLOR=True causes performance
degradations.
4. Widget window does not refresh correctly
5. Memory corruption in Fileselectionbox widget
due to stat64() call.
6. XmTextField generates incorrect warning
messages for some fonts.
7. problem in dtprintinfo
PHSS_28875:
1. Swinstall hangs when the following patches
are installed on a 11.00 HP-UX machine
a) PHSS_28366 (11.00 X/Motif 32bit RuntimePatch) and
b) PHCO_25902 (Cumulative SAM/ObAM patch)
2. The wdb application aborts in some circumstances
when run in LANG=ja_JP.SJIS in conjunction with
an input method and a preedit type of root.
3. A threaded application on HP-UX hangs in
XRefreshKeyboardMapping() when it is
displayed to a Linux machine.
4. The color of the window's shadow
is not calculated from a background.
5. Ctrl + Right click in an active menu
disables mouse input.
PHSS_28370:

closing.
2. _XmRCAdaptToSize() fails whilst freeing
an already free block and dumps core in
Java application.

4. Motif2.1 program abort in
_XmVirtKeysInitialize.
5. If an application uses XmbTextEscapement() or
XwcTextEscapement() to compute the length of
a string, the length of the string may differ
when actually rendered.
If the precomputed length was used as dimensions
for a text field, for example, the string may not
fit entirely within the text field. At this time,
this has only been reported on an application
running in the ko_KR.eucKR locale with a font
server configured.
6. Problem in libX11.1.
7. Calls to XCreateFontSet() may take a long
time to complete in Japanese locales for
some font specifications.
PHSS_27425:
1. swinstall and swcopy of PHSS_27234 fail
on 11.11 systems that do not have PHCO_23578.

10.A 64-bit application that calls
XListInputDevices() to an Xserver with
a NINE_KNOB box configured will abort.
11.Enhancement request.
12.XwcTextListToTextProperty() can return incorrect
results when operating on strings with JISX0212
characters. XmbTextListToTextProperty() works
correctly on the same string. This affects
applications using XwcTextListToTextProperty()
for data interchange, and it also affects
inputting of JISX0212 characters.
13.Calling XmbTextPropertyToTextList() on the
string returned by XmbTextListToTextProperty()
does not always generate the original string.
14.Calling XmbTextPropertyToTextList() on the
string returned by XmbTextListToTextProperty()
does not always generate the original string.
The same is true of XwcTextPropertyToTextList()
and XwcTextListToTextProperty().
15.64-bit applications which use Xlib may abort
when running in a UTF8 locale.
16.When processing characters for display while
running in a GB18030 locale, the library
(and therefore the application) may enter
an infinite loop when it encounters illegal
GB18030 characters.

appear as local:0.0 instead of <hostname>:0.0.
Clients that were displaying to a remote
system are not affected.
2. The window height of some Java application
pop-up windows may be too large.
3. Without an Xlib that supports the GB18030 locale,
attempts to run X-based applications in a GB18030
locale will generate an error message denoting
that GB18030 is not supported, and Xlib will default
to the C locale.
4. Overlap text string after installed PHSS_23520 .
5. Text not displayed.

Defect Description:
PHSS_30262:
1. X client connections should use
"keepalives" when creating the
transport.
Resolution:
When creating the client's transport, the code
now enables SO_KEEPALIVE. This will inform the
client if the remote Xserver fails to respond to
periodic messages.
2. _XmOSInitPath() problems with string
handling.
Resolution:
libXm and libMrm libraries are changed
to fix the problem.
3. Threadsafe Xt could be much faster
using recursive mutexes
Resolution:
Mutex is initialized as recursive and
code flow is changed for better
performance.
4. Toplevel shells do not inherit parents
colormap under Motif 2.1
Resolution:
Toplevel shells inherit parents colormap
under Motif 2.1
5. 64-bit clients cannot connect to the Xserver
when using X/Open networking.
Resolution:
In 64-bit mode, the routines that issue various
networking calls check to see if X/Open networking
is in use. If so, the arguments passed to these
are now compatible with the data types specified by
the X/Open networking API.
PHSS_29371:
1. Java Swing and AWT apps crash in ja_JP.utf8 locale
Resolution:
This was resolved by explicitly initializing
memory to desired values so that the appropriate
termination conditions would occur.
2. Motif key bindings are different between
10.20 and 11.0 mwm
Resolution:
"osfActivate:<Key>KP_Enter" Key Binding added
in motif2.1
3. Use of XMCHG_SHADOW_COLOR cause performance
degradations.
Resolution:
Resolved by changing the functional
implementation of XmChangeColor() when
the environment variable XMCHG_SHADOW_COLOR
is set to True.
4. Widget window does not refresh correctly
Resolution:
Removed the fix for JAGad81570.By default,
XmLabel ignores the XmNheight and XmNwidth
resources and instead computes the size based
on the size of the label string or pixmap.
This behavior can be changed by setting
XmNrecomputeSize to False.
5. _XmOSGetDirEntries() corrupting memory with
stat64() call
Resolution:
Memory corruption in Fileselectionbox widget
due to stat64() call has been rectified.
6. XmTextField generates incorrect warning
messages for some fonts
Resolution:
The problem is fixed and the fonts are
displayed correctly for all the multibyte
locales.
7. problem in dtprintinfo
Resolution:
The problem with dtprintinfo is resolved by
changing libXt.
PHSS_28875:
1. libXm.2 from PHSS_28366 prevents
swinstall from working properly.
Resolution:
Datatype of CumHeight variable has
been corrected in ListP.h header
file to fix the problem.
2. wdb may abort with a core dump in Japanese
locales
Resolution:
An internal loop which iterates over resources
associated with the input context was modified
to advance the correct parameter during iteration.
3. Threaded application hangs in Xlib when
displayed to a Linux machine.
Resolution:
The XRefreshKeyboardMapping() routine had an
UnlockDisplay() without a preceding LockDisplay().
This was modified so that we now have a matched
LockDisplay/UnlockDisplay pair. A similar problem
was found in XkbGetMapChanges(), and that was also
fixed so that the routine now contains a matched
LockDisplay()/UnlockDisplay() pair.
4. The color of the window's shadow is not
calculated from a background.
Resolution:
The color of the window's shadow is
calculated from a background, when
the environmental variable XMCHG_SHADOW_COLOR
is set to TRUE.
5. Ctrl + Right click in an active menu
disables mouse input.
Resolution:
Ctrl + Right click in an active menu
does not disable mouse input.

PanedW.c to address Netscape hang.
Resolution:
Netscape 4.8 Paned Window does not
hang while closing.
2. _XmRCAdaptToSize() fails whilst freeing
an already free block.
Resolution:
_XmRCAdaptToSize()does not fail whilst
freeing an already free block and does
not dump core in Java application.
3. Problem with XmIm.
Resolution:
Problem with XmIm is resolved.
4. Motif2.1 program abort in
_XmVirtKeysInitialize.
Resolution:
Motif2.1 program does not abort in
_XmVirtKeysInitialize.
5. XmbTextEscapement() and XwcTextEscapement()
may report character metrics which differ
from what is actually used when
XmbDrawString() and XwcDrawString() are
called to render the string.
Resolution:
The routines used in XmbTextEscapement() and
XwcTextEscapement() had a condition where they
could select a font different from what
XmbDrawString() and XwcDrawString() would select
when rendering the string. This has been
corrected so that XmbTextEscapement() will choose
the same font that XmbDrawString() will use
and XwcTextEscapement() will choose the same
font that XwcDrawString() will use.
6. Problem in libX11.1.
Resolution:
Problem in libX11.1 is resolved.
7. Calls to XCreateFontSet() may be slow in
Japanese locales.
Resolution:
The underlying routines used by XCreateFontSet()
have been modified to cache some font information.
This cache saves repeated calls to XListFonts()
to obtain font information for the same font
pattern(s). This can provide a performance
improvement to XCreateFontSet() for some font
specifications.
PHSS_27425:
1. swcopy and swinstall of PHSS_27234 fail
on systems without PHCO_23578.

with > 3000 principals.
Resolution:
The tclobam does not abort when more than
3000 principals are created.
4. Five include files have duplicate and bad
definitions of NULL.
Resolution:
NULL has been redefined to be 0L in
64-bit applications.
5. Program hangs when using menu with
button 2.
Resolution:
Set the environment variable XM_DRAG_NO_GRAB
to true (case insensitive) either from the
shell or from the application to restrict the
XServer grab during Drag.
From shell:
-----------
export XM_DRAG_NO_GRAB=true
From prog:
----------
putenv("XM_DRAG_NO_GRAB=true");
Program doesn't hang when using menu
with button 2.
6. Motif2.1 PushButtonGadget child of
XmScrolledWindow no BtnDown
Resolution:
BtnDown occurs when the child of
XmScrolledWindow is gadget in Motif2.1 .
7. Motif2.1 cannot set XmNvalue by XtVaSetValues
when LANG is ja_JP.SJIS.
Resolution:
Motif2.1 can now set XmNvalue by
XtVaSetValues when it is a multibyte
locale.
8. aCC +w -- compiler warnings from
Xlib, etc.
Resolution:
aCC +w -- compiler warnings will not be
generated.
9. RowColumn Widget size is not resized on
X11R6,MOTIF2.1.
Resolution:
RowColumn Widget gets resized.
10.xdial program aborts in 64-bit mode when
using NINE_KNOB device.
Resolution:
The code in XListInputDevices() had the potential
to force alignment problems when the Xserver
was configured with input devices with an odd
number of axes. This was fixed to ensure that
all data copies issued using data in the reply
are double-word aligned.
11.ER: Please add internal support in Xlib
for HKSCS.
Resolution:
Made requested enhancement.
12.XwcTextListToTextProperty() does not handle JISX0212
characters.
Resolution:
One of the conversion routines used in the
eucJP locale had a defect when processing
JISX0212 characters. It properly converted
the characters, but it placed them in a
buffer which did not get returned to the
calling routine. This was modified to
move the converted characters to the
correct buffer.
13.Compound text may be incorrect in zh_HK.big5,
zh_TW.big5 and zh_TW.ccdc.

determine character lengths based on the big5
ranges.
14.Compound text handling may be incorrect in
zh_HK.hkbig5.
Resolution:
The routines used to convert a compound-text
string back to a character string were
incorrectly masking 0x80 into the resulting
string. This was incorrect and has been
removed.
15.Some 64-bit Xlib applications abort in UTF8
locales.
Resolution:
Some of the internal routines used when a UTF8
locale is in use had some code which was not
64-bit clean. The code has been fixed to be
clean in 64-bit environments.
16.Invalid characters in the GB18030 locale can
cause an infinite loop when processed.
Resolution:
The routines which process GB18030
characters in the GB18030 output method
used in Xlib did not properly detect
incomplete GB18030 characters. The code
was modified to detect and skip
incomplete GB18030 characters.
PHSS_25881:
1. TextF Destroy method should cancel text.select_id
timeout.
Resolution:
Text/TextF Destroy method removes
timeout id in BrowseScroll().
2. Motif Text widget has inconsistent behaviour
after losingFocus event.
Resolution:
For Motif Text widget and TextField widget
to have consistent behaviour after losing
Focus event, losing focus callback event
is invoked only when activate callback
is called.
3. Motif 2.1 applications abort when displaying
to a Sun dual screen system.
Resolution:
Motif 2.1 applications correctly display to a Sun dual
screen system by calling XtGetSelectionValue() only
with realized widget.

proper data decoding macro when placing data on the
request buffer that is sent to the Xserver. The new
macro properly decodes the XEventClass data as 64-bit
data when the application is compiled in 64-bit mode.
As a result, the XEventClass data appears in the correct
location in the data stream that is sent to the Xserver.
