KIT SUMMARY:

A dupatch-based, Early Release Patch(ERP) kit exists for HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5
that contains solutions to the following problem(s):

1) Fresh installation of Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5/pk7 (BL28) or upgrade to Tru64 UNIX
V5.1B-5/pk7 (BL28) panics the system during the boot, if the root domain is
configured under LSM. Boot will panic with the following indications after the
installation :

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system

vfs_mountroot: re-trying to mount root file system panic (cpu 0): vfs_mountroot: cannot mount root

Note: There is no impact on customers who either have clusters or don't have root domains under LSM.

2) This ERP kit also fixes a memory leak problem in LSM code

The patches in this ERP kit will also be available in the next mainstream
patch kit - HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-6.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

1) Install this kit with the dupatch utility that is included in the patch
kit. You may need to baseline your system if you have manually changed
system files on your system. The dupatch utility provides the baselining
   capability.

2) The patch in this ERP kit does not have any file intersections with any
other ERP available at this time for this product version.

3) This ERP kit will NOT install over any Customer Specific Patches (CSPs)
which have file intersections with this ERP kit. Contact your normal
Service Provider for assistance if the installation of this ERP kit is
blocked by any of your installed CSPs.

INSTALLATION PREREQUISITES:

You must have installed HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B-5 PK7 (BL28) prior to
installing this Early Release Patch Kit.

2 Special Instructions

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS for Tru64 UNIX V5.1B Patch C2410.01
Instructions to be followed while installing the BL28 dupatch kit along with the ERP on a stand-alone machine :

  For fresh installation/upgrade to BL28:

     1. Copy these files if it's an upgrade,
           copy the /vmunix to /vmunix.BL27
           copy the /vmunix.PrePatch /vmunix.PrePatch.old

     2. Now install the BL28 dupatch kit.
Answer 'No' when installation requests for reboot.

     3. Install the LSM ERP kit on the machine and
request a reboot after the successful installation.

If the customer has already upgraded to BL28 and system panic'd while booting from BL28:

     1. Boot the system with vmunix.PrePatch since the system has panic'd.

     2. Install the LSM ERP kit as usual.

When the ERP installation is complete and new kernel is built it asks for reboot and followed by:
"An existing pre-patched kernel (/vmunix.PrePatch) has been found.
Do you wish to overwrite it?
               Please answer y or n: n
        "

Here, one should select 'not' to overwrite the /vmunix.PrePatch with the existing BL28
kernel(with out LSM CSP) as it is faulty.

  NOTES:

      * Reported problem will appear, and CSP is required on BL28 dupatch installation
*only if* root_domain is going to be under LSM.
